The Coalition for An Inclusive Daviess County started up in response to a group pushing to review and move over 250 books in the Daviess County Public Library. These books covered a range of topics, like LGBTQ+ stories, racial issues, and honest depictions of the struggles faced by Black Americans and people of color. Some of them also dove into tough subjects, including sexual content and memoirs about young people who faced abuse.

As more and more folks in our community spoke out about the book review, we realized we needed to join forces. It was clear that when we stand together, our voices carry more weight. That's when, in January 2024, The Coalition for An Inclusive Daviess County came together. Our goal? To create a community where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered, and where diversity is celebrated.

We're not just sitting back and talking about it, though. We're diving into the action. We're showing up at Library Board Meetings and Daviess County Fiscal Court sessions. We're meeting with local bigwigs like the Judge Executive, County Commissioners, and folks from the Boards of Education. And you'll spot us at events across town that celebrate diversity, like Multi-cultural Festivals, Pride Picnics, and Juneteenth Celebrations.

Now, some folks might think we'll pack up and leave once the library situation is sorted out. But let me set the record straight: that's not happening. The Coalition is here to stay. We're committed to fighting for Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Belonging in every corner of our community. Owensboro/Daviess County has always prided itself on being a warm and inclusive place, and we're determined to keep it that way for everyone, regardless of who they are.
